Privacy & cookies
Your privacy matters to me. This page explains, in plain English, what personal information I collect when you get in touch or book a walk, why I need it, how I look after it, and the choices you have. It also explains the small number of cookies and similar technologies this website uses.
§ 01Who I am
Adventures with Skye is a personalised dog walking service run by Melissa Reeves, based in Moretonhampstead on Dartmoor. I offer solo and small group walks, secure field sessions and drop-in visits. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), I am the “controller” of the personal information described here.
You can contact me about anything on this page:
- Email: hello@adventureswithskye.co.uk

§ 02What I collect
This website has no contact forms, accounts or online booking, so it doesn't collect your details directly. You get in touch with me by phone, text, WhatsApp, email, Facebook or Instagram, and I collect information when you do:
- Enquiries:your name, phone number, email address or social media profile, and whatever you tell me about your dog and what you're looking for.
- If you become a client:your address, phone and email, emergency contact details, your vet's details, information about your dog (health, vaccinations, behaviour, recall), your consent for off-lead walking, and any key or key-safe code and home-access arrangements we agree.
- Payments:records of walks, invoices and the bank transfers you make to me. I don't take card payments.
- Photos: photos of your dog taken on walks, which I send to you and, only if you agree, share on social media.
- Website visits: like any website, the hosting provider automatically receives technical information such as your IP address and browser type so it can deliver pages securely. Analytics cookies are only used if you allow them (see Cookies below).
§ 03How I use it
- To reply to your enquiry and arrange a free meet & greet.
- To provide walks and visits safely, and contact you about your bookings.
- To get your dog emergency veterinary care if they're unwell or injured and I can't reach you.
- To send invoices, keep track of payments and keep the business records the law requires.
- To share photos of your dog on social media, only where you've said that's OK.
I never sell your information, and I don't use it for marketing to you or anyone else.
§ 04Lawful basis
Data protection law requires a lawful reason for using personal information. Mine are:
- Contract — to take bookings and provide the services you ask for, including answering your enquiry beforehand.
- Legitimate interests — keeping your dog safe (for example emergency contacts and vet details) and running my business sensibly.
- Legal obligation — keeping financial records for HMRC.
- Consent — sharing photos of your dog on social media, and analytics cookies on this website. You can withdraw consent at any time.
§ 05Who it's shared with
I keep your information to myself as far as possible. It is only shared:
- With a vet, if your dog needs treatment while in my care.
- With HMRC or other authorities, if the law requires it.
- With the services that carry our conversations and run this website: my phone and email providers; WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram (Meta), if you message me there (their own privacy policies apply to what you send through them); my bank, for payments; and the website host, Vercel, which serves this site.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they are responsible for using legally recognised safeguards.
§ 06How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don't lead to a booking: deleted within 12 months.
- Client details (contact, dog, vet and emergency information): kept while you're a client and deleted within 12 months after our last walk. Keys are returned and key-safe codes deleted when we stop working together.
- Financial records (invoices and payments): kept for as long as HMRC requires — at least 5 years after the 31 January tax return deadline for the relevant tax year.
- Photos on social media: until you ask me to remove them.
§ 07Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information I hold about you;
- ask me to correct anything that's wrong or incomplete;
- ask me to delete your information, or to stop or restrict using it;
- object to my using it on the basis of legitimate interests;
- ask for your information in a format you can take elsewhere;
- withdraw your consent at any time (for photos or analytics cookies).
Just get in touch using the details above — there's no charge, and I'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
